An API bridge is a software layer that translates trading signals from one platform into orders at another. For Indian traders, this typically means connecting global platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader, or AmiBroker to Indian brokers like Zerodha, Angel One, or Fyers.
Why Do You Need a Bridge?
Indian brokers don't natively integrate with most trading platforms. TradingView can't place orders at Zerodha directly. MetaTrader was designed for forex brokers, not Indian exchanges. An API bridge fills this gap.
How a Bridge Works
- Signal Detection: The bridge monitors your trading platform for entry/exit signals. This could be a TradingView webhook, an AmiBroker exploration output, or a MetaTrader EA signal.
- Signal Translation: The bridge converts the signal into an order format your Indian broker understands — including the correct exchange symbol, order type, product type, and quantity.
- Order Routing: The translated order is sent to your broker's API endpoint. The broker validates the order against your available margin and places it on the exchange.
- Confirmation & Logging: The bridge receives the order confirmation from the broker and logs the execution details for your records.
Types of Bridges
- Webhook Bridges: Receive HTTP POST requests (e.g., from TradingView alerts) and route them to broker APIs.
- Application Bridges: Run as desktop applications that read signals from AmiBroker or MetaTrader in real-time.
- API-to-API Bridges: Connect one API (e.g., a Python script's output) to another API (your broker).
Security Considerations
A good bridge should encrypt your broker API credentials, use least-privilege access (order placement only, no fund withdrawal), and provide detailed audit logs. Never use a bridge that asks for your trading password or bank account access.
Choosing the Right Bridge
Look for low latency, multi-broker support, proper risk management features (SL/target/position limits), and responsive technical support. The bridge should be transparent about how it handles your data and credentials.
Disclaimer
Using an API bridge for automated trading does not guarantee profits. All trading carries risk. The bridge is a tool for execution — trading decisions and strategy logic remain your responsibility.
